The Iowa Blues Hall of Fame exhibit has a new look! A collaborative effort between the Central Iowa Blues Society (CIBS) and Hawkeye Elks Lodge, the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame was recently relocated to a prominent location within the Lodge, with improved lighting and a new, distinctive Hall of Fame sign.
To celebrate this fresh new look, CIBS has announced the inaugural Halfway to the Hall of Fame Concert and Jam on October 14, 2018 at the Hawkeye Elks Lodge located at 1401 Walker Street in Des Moines. The event will be hosted by Iowa Blues Hall of Fame member Steve E. George and his band the Groove with a jam to follow. The event is $15 for non-members ($10 for CIBS and Elks Members). Doors open at 5pm and the show starts at 6pm.
Currently home to 69 members, the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame was founded in 1999 and originally housed at Blues on Grand until its closing in 2010. The exhibit was rededicated in its new home at the Hawkeye Elks Lodge in September 2014. New inductees are selected periodically by the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame committee and honored at a celebratory awards ceremony.
The Iowa Blues Hall of Fame, its mission to recognize, honor and celebrate Iowa Blues heritage, has gone through a rebirth of sorts since languishing after the closure of the popular Blues on Grand. The induction awards ceremony has steadily grown in recent years with multiple sell-outs, prompting a move to River Center Eventorium for more event space in 2019. The current upgrade gives the exhibit a clean, professional look worthy of a hall of fame. The Hawkeye Elks Lodge is open to the public and your visit is welcomed!
