Blues Happenings
Calendar
General Membership Meeting Be sure to keep up on the happenings of your Blues Society. Everyone
should try to make at least one meeting per year—if
nothing else, to just put faces on names. The meetings take place the
second Monday of every month, start at 7 p.m., and are held at Blues On
Grand in Des Moines. Everyone's welcome—we’ll save you a seat!
CIBS Contributes Phone Cards for Troops
Please join the Central Iowa Blues Society at Blues On Grand, November
10, 2008 at 7:30PM as they present $2,200 to the American Legion. In
continuing support of our troops, the CIBS is donating the remaining
proceeds from the Blues For Baghdad CD project to the American Legion
for their phone card program.
On April 18th, 2004, seven local Blues bands and over 300 of their friends
gathered at Blues On Grand in downtown Des Moines to honor and celebrate
the men and women of Iowa serving our country in Operation Iraqi
Freedom. The recording made on that day was our way of saying thank you
for their dedication and sacrifice. They may be far from home but they
are not forgotten.
The CDs were distributed to the Iowa Troops in the fall of 2004 and we
have now sold the last of the CDs that were available for purchase.
For more information, call Lynette at 515-250-4198.

Charlson Building Restoration Project featuring Iowa Homegrown Blues &
BBQ! Music by Patrick Hazell, Steve Kastli, and Radio Moscow. BBQ by The
Bistro. Where: The Charlson Building, 526 Broad Street in Story City,
Iowa. When: November 8, 2008 @ 7:30pm. Call 515.733.4620 for more
information.
KUNI 2008 Fall Blues Blowout American
bluesman Kenny Neal brings his axe to Waterloo’s Electric Park Ballroom on
November 22 for the 2008 Fall Blues Blowout, presented by the Friends of
KUNI/KHKE.
Let Life Flow marks the return of multi-instrumentalist and modern
swamp-blues master Kenny Neal, with an inspired set that draws musically
from the sizzling sounds of his native Louisiana, while striking a deep,
emotional resonance in response to the personal trials he has recently
endured. For the past few years, health problems forced Kenny away from the
studio and touring, and his first release since signing with Blind Pig
Records finds him returning with a renewed vigor and outlook on life. Let
Life Flow reflects his optimistic sense of perseverance, set to the soulful
grooves that have garnered him a solid fan base over the past twenty years.
Opening the show is the 2008 Iowa Blues Challenge winner, the Avey Brothers,
from Davenport. Showtime is 8 p.m.
Tickets are $20 in advance ($25 at the door). Advance tickets can be ordered
online at kuniradio.org or by calling 800-772-2440, ext. 0. Advance tickets
are also available at Bob's Guitars in Cedar Falls. All proceeds benefit
Iowa Public Radio.

plans now to join them next year!

Calling all Writers/Reviewers
Help Promote CIBS!
For our Society to continue to grow and thrive, we need others to
know who we are, what we’re about and what we’re doing.
Business owners – do you have a good spot we can hang posters
or fliers for our events? If you’re not already, consider becoming a
CIBS Corporate Sponsor. Your name will be listed on every Crier for
our members to see and you will be supporting the music you love.
Members – where are some places you frequent that you feel
are candidates for posters, fliers, table tents, etc. for upcoming
events? Try to recruit a friend to the Society. We need to grow to
flourish!
PLEASE send your ideas to Serena James at blueslivon@aol.com or
contact her at 515.282.1172.
