The annual Walk Now For Autism Speaks will be Saturday, June 9th, 2012. Having outgrown Valley High Stadium, this year’s event is being moved to Principal Park, 350 SW First St., Des Moines, IA. The Walk will begin at 10:00AM with registration starting at 8:30 AM.

CIBS will again be a sponsor of this worthwhile event along with Hot Tamale and the Red Hots providing the music.

Walk Now for Autism Speaks is a fun-filled, family friendly event and is our single most powerful force to fund vital research that will lead us to the answers we need. Last year, nearly 3200 walkers, teams, friends, families and community supporters joined together as one to walk for HOPE, raising over $161,000.

We invite you to join a team formed called Kellen and Wills Fighters (in honor of my son, Kellen, and friend Robin’s son, Will). You are also welcome to form a team of your own, walk independently or click the link below to join a team and/or make a donation. Add your name to the list and help make this the year of the breakthrough.

Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person’s lifetime. Today, 1 in 110 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person’s ability to communicate and relate to others and is associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe and can affect the individuals and their families for a lifetime.

Please join us as we walk to find a cure for Autism. For more information, contact Serena James at 515-282-1172.
