The Central Iowa Blues Society’s Blues In The Schools program for 2018 is being presented at Hoover High and its feeder schools with the main focus being five elementary schools, Monday, April 23rd through Friday, April 27th.

We are proud to announce Kevin “BF” Burt as our Blues In The Schools clinician. Kevin recently represented Iowa in the 34th International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee where he took a record-breaking three top prizes. In addition to winning first place in the Solo/Duo category, he also won the Lee Oskar Award for Best Harmonica Player and the Best Solo/Duo Guitarist.

Burt is recognized as one of the Midwest’s top blues heritage educators–an honor given to him by Iowa Governor Chet Culver in February of 2009. Kevin is a registered artist, and artist educator with the state of Iowa Arts Council. He has also written and published a classroom harmonica method book called “Just Play It: an introduction to blues harmonica.” His approach is simple, education through entertainment. His program has been going strong since 1994. Burt plans to continue this work as well as his community work with children and the arts.

A huge Blues thank you to Scott Davis, Ryan Rowley, and Maureen Griffin for their support at the schools level. Also the support and sponsorship from the Des Moines Public Schools, Stoney Creek Inn, Vanessa Howell, Community Partnership Coordinator, and Kelly Kretschmer, Fine and Performing Arts Curriculum Coordinator.
