The Central Iowa Blues Society’s 2015 Blues In The Schools program is being presented at Hoover High School on January 13th,14th and 15th. Seventeen students have been selected to learn about the history of blues music, writing blues music and eight hours of lessons on instruments of their choice. Our blues clinicians, Bob Pace, guitar – David Altemeier, bass,- “Freight Train” Frank Strong Jr., harmonica,- Mark Grimm, drums and our blues historian, Scott Davis will be guiding the students through three days of the blues. On Thursday, January 15th at 4pm, the students who wish to participate will perform with the clinicians in the Hoover high school auditorium.
Some of the BITS students will have opportunities to perform at the CIBS Winter Blues Fest on Saturday, January 31st at 5pm in the Marriott’s “Windows On 7th” room, Botanical Blues at the Des Moines Botanical Gardens, Bottoms Up Blues Bash, and Highland Park Sweet Corn Feed.
