Iowa Blues Hall of Fame
The 2019 Iowa Blues Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on Sunday, April 7th at the River Center Eventorium. As always, it was a memorable evening in a beautiful new venue. A crowd of well over 200 people were in attendance as the class of 2019–Frank Strong, Greg Sutherland, Jeff Banks, Kevin Burt and Janey Hooper–were inducted. The newest members of the Hall of Fame gave thrilling performances culminating in a beautiful video featuring Janey Hooper.
As always a big thank you to the volunteers who helped and a special thank you to our sponsors Flying Mango, Frame Works, Fat Tuesday Productions, VividPix & Design and the River Center. And another special thanks goes to Steve Vasquez for baking all those fabulous pies!
Pictures of the newest members will be unveiled soon. Please visit the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame at it’s home in the Hawkeye Elks Lodge 160, 1401 Walker Street in Des Moines.
Mark your calendars now! The 2020 induction ceremony of the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame will be held on Sunday April 5th, 2020 at the River Center Eventorium.

R.I.P. Tom Gary
We are sad to report that Tom Gary, blues historian, founder of Central Iowa Blues Society and the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame, died in his sleep sometime Sunday, May 5, 2019. Tom made so many lasting and significant contributions to our blues community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all his loved ones. May he rest in peace.
In recent years Tom hosted the Iowa Blues Showcase podcast. Lots of great memories there to check out.
