Chickenbone Slim & the Biscuits

Chickenbone Slim and the Biscuits are a four-piece original Blues/American international touring band based in San Diego, California that features 2023 Blues Music Award-winning guitarist, Laura Chavez, on lead (Candye Kane), Marty Dodson on drums (Fabulous Thunderbirds), and 20-year-old prodigy Justice Guevera on electric and standup bass.

By mixing Texas, Chicago and Excelo blues styles with Roots Rock, Swing and Americana, Chickenbone has a unique sound, with a strong catalogue of original music. His newest album “Damn Good and Ready” was recorded during the “bomb cyclone” rain in Northern California at Greaseland Studios. With mixing, mastering, and mojo from Kid Anderson, the album features 12 new original songs. The first single “Rock and Roll Soul” dropped July 26th, and the album released August 2nd, 2023.

There will be a celebration of life for Jeff “Doc” Wagner on Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 2-8PM at Confluence Brewing Company. The celebration will include a LIVE JAM and POTLUCK with Pulled Pork Sandwiches provided.

This is the day after the Mississippi Valley Blues Fest in hopes that many of Doc’s out-of-town friends will be able to extend their stay a little to come.

Bringing crowds to their feet at the hardest to please and sophisticated night clubs in the Midwest, Reverend Raven and the Chain Smoking Altar Boys play traditional blues, straight up with a big dose of passion. With smoking grooves, served up with hot harmonica and smooth stinging guitar they play original songs peppered with nods to Slim Harpo, Little Walter, Jimmy Rogers, Billy Boy Arnold, Junior Wells and the three Kings.

The Central Iowa Blues Society was incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 1992 by 200 blues lovers. Our mission is to keep the blues alive through celebration, preservation, and education. We endeavor to increase awareness of and appreciation for blues music by providing a network of association for blues enthusiasts. We recognize and honor our Iowa blues heritage through the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame program. We celebrate blues performance by promoting numerous concerts throughout the year including the Winter Blues Fest and the Iowa Blues Challenge. We strive to educate and ensure the future of the blues through Blues in the Schools.

Central Iowa Blues Society received The Blues Foundation’s Keeping the Blues Alive Award in 2016. Each year, The Blues Foundation presents the Keeping the Blues Alive (KBA) Awards to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the Blues around the world.
