Erich Gaukel – 2026 INDUCTEE
After buying a used Fender Musicmaster bass at age 14, Erich Gaukel became immersed in the garage-band culture of his high school, playing with friends at parties and talent shows. He later performed in high school and college jazz bands, experiences that helped shape his musical foundation and versatility.
These early years paved the way for his decades-long tenure as bassist with The Soul Searchers, a blues band rooted in the traditions of T-Bone Walker, Freddie King, Otis Rush, and Magic Sam. Erich performed on all three of the band’s albums. He later joined the Matt Woods Band, appearing on the group’s debut recording.
In addition to his work with these groups, Erich has performed with Johnny Burgin, Aki Kumar, Pieta Brown, Bo Ramsey, R.J. Mischo, Jim Viner’s Incredible B3 Band, Seth Hedquist, Bob Pace, and Heath Alan. He appears on the latest album by singer-songwriter Trevor Sensor and is currently developing a new band project with longtime friends and musical collaborators Skip Lowe and Terry Luther.
