Greg Sutherland – 2019 INDUCTEE

Greg Sutherland began singing, playing guitar and keyboards in his hometown of Detroit in 1964. During high school he sang and played keyboards for Kross of the Moon, during which time he had the opportunity to play a gig with Motown vocal group The Sweet Inspirations, which included Cissy Houston (mother of Whitney). Following graduation Greg moved to southern Iowa, where he attended Graceland College. There he began playing bass and spent eight years with the successful band, Zini. In 1981, Greg joined his former Zini bandmate, Jono Smith in the Des Moines-based Alien Corn. In 1994 he participated in the first Iowa Blues Challenge as a member of the Heaters. 1999 was a very significant year for Greg when he joined Fat Tuesday & the Greasefire Horns. Alongside his longtime friend Scott Long and IBHOF member Jimmy “Midnight Cowboy” Pryor the band won the 2000 Iowa Blues Challenge. Since then he has continued to perform with Fat Tuesday opening shows for many of the biggest names in blues. He also works as a sound and lighting engineer for Fat Tuesday Productions. Over the years Greg has gained a reputation as an extraordinary jam master, hosting the Fat Tuesday Jam at Carl’s Place since 2014.
