Richie Hayward – 2009 INDUCTEE

Richie Hayward, a drummer born in Clear Lake, Iowa, and raised in Ames, played in the bands The Fraternity of Man and also The Factory, who portrayed the Beatlesque band, The Bedbugs, on an episode of the television show F-Troop in 1967.

In 1969, he joined Lowell George in forming the band Little Feat. Of course, Little Feat has gone on to become one of the most respected and beloved bands on the planet, releasing over twenty albums since.

He has also performed with many other notable artists, including Joan Armatrading, Kim Carnes, Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, James Cotton, The Doobie Brothers, Bob Dylan, Peter Frampton, Buddy Guy, Arlo Guthrie, Candye Kane, Jonny Lang, Nils Lofgren, Taj Mahal, Robert Palmer, Van Dyke Parks, Robert Plant, Bob Seger, Carly Simon, Stephen Stills, Walter Trout, Tom Waits, Warren Zevon, and others.

Richie was diagnosed with liver cancer in August of 2009 and passed away after a year-long fight on August 14th, 2010.
