Scott Long – 2025 INDUCTEE

Scott’s interest in guitar began at age 9. While in high school he took lessons from Mike “Monk” Bruce, former guitarist for Bobby Bland and Bob Seger. It was at this point that the blues got a hold of his life.

Scott moved to Iowa in the late 1980s to attend Graceland University, majoring in guitar performance. After graduating he moved to Central Iowa and began attending the jams and shows at The Grand and Blues on Grand. He quickly decided to form his own band to focus on blues music.

1997 saw the birth of Fat Tuesday and The Greasefire Horns. The band would go on to win the 1999 Iowa Blues Challenge and become a mainstay in the region to this day.  Scott has been and continues to be the engine behind the band strategy and success.

After the closing of Blues on Grand he and Scott Allen formed Big Red Dog Productions to continue bringing live blues to central lowa. Scott also worked with the Greenwood Lounge to bring live music to that venue.  He has started and hosts the long-running jam at Carl’s Place.

In addition to all this Scott owns a live event production company. He provides sound for events such as 80/35, Iowa State Fair, CIBS Winter Blues Fest, CIBS Springfest, Bowl Full of Blues, and the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
