Stephen Miller – 2000 INDUCTEE

Stephen Miller was born in Cedar Rapids in 1942. He started the Linn County Band in 1965, and was hanging out in Chicago at Mother Blues Club, where he jammed with Muddy Waters, Otis Rush, Magic Sam, James Cotton, Luther Allison, and many other Blues greats. In 1967, he brought the Linn County Band to San Francisco, and recorded two albums for Phillips Records. He was a regular at Fillmore West, where he jammed with The Allman Brothers Band. During this period, he recorded an album with the great guitarist, Earl Hooker, called Hooker and Steve. He also recorded a self-titled solo album. He then joined the Elvin Bishop Band, recording a few albums with them. He also recorded with Zydeco pioneer, Clifton Chenier, in 1972. In 1974, he re-formed the Linn County Band in Iowa, before moving to Georgia, where he joined the Southern Rock band, Grinderswitch. He was living on the Allman Bros. farm at this time. He then moved to Florida, where he formed Dr. Hector & the Groove Injectors. He has played with Cookie & the Vagrantz since 1996. He still resides in Florida, and has played on approximately 50 albums in his long career. -Jeff Schmatt
