Congratulations to Matt Woods, winner of the 2012 Iowa Blues Solo/Duo Challenge held August 26, 2012 at Zimm’s Food and Spirits in Des Moines.
Matt Woods received $250 cash plus $300 travel expenses to Memphis as our state representative at the International Blues Challenge to be held January 29-February 2, 2013. Matt was one of five acts from across Iowa to participate in this event.
Matt Woods is both a native Iowan and a purveyor of its unique Blues tradition. As a seasoned performer of many local, regional and national clubs and venues, Matt has developed a distinct style while still staying loyal to his Blues roots. Versed in traditional delta, hill country and urban electric Blues, his biggest influences include the likes of: Son House, Fred McDowell, Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf and R.L. Burnside, among others.
