Iowa Blues Challenge Finals Results

Congratulations to the 2014 Iowa Blues Challenge Champions, the Mercury Brothers.  In addition to a $500 cash prize, they also receive 8 hours recording time courtesy of Junior’s Motel in Otho IA, paid gigs at the 2014 Mississippi Valley Blues Festival, the 2014 Parks Area Sweet Corn Day Festival & the 2015 Winter Blues Fest, among other opportunities, and entry into and travel expenses for the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis TN.  Congratulations also to the runners up, Hot Tamale & the Red Hots ($400 cash prize) and the Jefferson County Green Band ($300 cash prize).  CIBS would like to express our gratitude to all the participating bands, to our esteemed panel of judges, to our sponsors and partners, and to our dedicated volunteer corps.  Without all of you, none of this would be possible.

Congratulations to advancing bands from the Quad Cities preliminary round The Mercury Brothers and The Harris Collection.

The order of performance (with approximate performance times) for the 2014 Iowa Blues Challenge Finals on Saturday, May 17th at 8:00 PM (doors open at 7) at the Hotel Fort Des Moines Grand Ballroom, 1000 Walnut St., is as follows:

  1. The Harris Collection  (8:00-8:45)
  2. The Mercury Brothers  (9:00-9:45)
  3. Hot Tamale & the Red Hots  (10:00-10:45)
  4. Jefferson County Green Band  (11:00-11:45)

Admission is $7 for any Iowa blues society member (must show card), $10 for non-members.

Iowa Blues Challenge Preliminary Round

The Des Moines preliminary round of the Iowa Blues Challenge will be held Thursday, April 10th at 7:00 PM at Zimm’s Food & Spirits.  The four bands competing are: Jefferson County Green Band, the El Dorados, Hot Tamale & the Red Hots and Rosendahl.  $5 for any Iowa blues society member (must show card), $8 for non-members

The Quad Cities preliminary round will be held Sunday, April 13th at the Muddy Waters in Bettendorf.  The four bands competing are: Phineas J’s, Concrete Slim & the Sidewalks, The Harris Collection and the Mercury Brothers.

Two bands from each preliminary will advance to the Iowa Blues Challenge Finals on Saturday, May 17th at the Hotel Fort Des Moines, where one talented group will win cash, recording time, opportunities for paid gigs throughout the year, and entry into and travel expenses for the 2015 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

We are now seeking applicants for the 2014 Iowa Blues Challenge band competition. A round will be held in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at Zimm’s and a round in Bettendorf at Muddy Waters, April 13, 2014. Depending on the number of entries, more rounds may be added. Prizes include cash, travel expenses, as well as performance opportunities PLUS THE INTERNATIONAL BLUES CHALLENGE in Memphis, TN, January, 2015.
